Conference: "Work and Poverty - National and EU Perspectives"

The Department of Social Protection and the Economic and Social Research Institute held this national conference to discuss new research on work and poverty. The Conference discussed a new research report on Work and Poverty in Ireland, by Dorothy Watson (ESRI), Bertrand Maître (ESRI) and Christopher T. Whelan(UCD). The report provides new insights on the relationship between work, unemployment and poverty taking into account the impact of the economic recession. International research on household work intensity and the adequacy of social protection in the EU was also discussed. The conference considered the implications for policy, drawing on international and national learning in conjunction with relevant stakeholders.
