ISSP/NESC Conference: Which Path Ahead? Perspectives on Policy from Irish Social Science

On the 11th of May, 2016, The Irish Social Science Platform (ISSP) in collaboration with the National Economic and Social Council (NESC) will hold a day-long conference (see programme here) which will showcase ten outstanding pieces of Irish social science research (see abstracts here) which have important policy implications. A series of research papers exploring the policy options available in Ireland, in key areas, will be presented. In the process, the potential for new research collaborations and networks can be explored.

ESRI researchers will be presenting the following papers at the Conference:

"The Effectiveness of a Second-Chance Education Scheme as an Unemployment Activation Measure: Evidence from Ireland", by Elish Kelly and Seamus McGuinness, Economic and Social Research Institute.

"Social Risk and Social Class trends in Social Exclusion in Ireland : Boom, Recession and Beyond", by Dorothy Watson, Bertrand Maître, Christopher T. Whelan and Helen Russell, Economic and Social Research Institute.

The audience will be composed of academics, policymakers, politicians, NGO’s, community groups and professionals from across diverse range of areas, all with the aim of enriching engagement and bringing new insights and empirical analysis to bear on complex public policy issues.
