Ireland’s Economic Outlook: Perspectives and Policy Challenges

The ESRI will launch its Economic Outlook for the Irish economy at a special half-day conference on Monday, 5th of December. The conference will consist of 4 papers; three by ESRI staff and one by Simon Kirby, head of macroeconomic modelling and forecasting, at the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR). The main aim of the conference is to introduce a new macro-model, COSMO (Core Structural Model of the Irish Economy), that describes the behaviour of the Irish economy  and how it can be used for policy analysis. Along with a baseline outlook for the Irish economy, a number of policy-relevant scenarios will also be examined. Papers will also focus on the implications for specific sectors of the Irish economy such as the housing and financial sector as well as issues for FDI and fiscal policy. The contribution from NIESR will examine the related outlook for the UK economy.

Venue: ESRI, Whitaker Square, Sir John Rogerson's Quay, Dublin 2.
