The Growing Up in Ireland study team is pleased to announce the launch of its latest report, The Lives of 13-Year-Olds by James Williams, Maeve Thornton, Mark Morgan, Amanda Quail and Emer Smyth with Daráine Murphy and Desmond O’Mahony

The report will be launched by Dr Katherine Zappone, T.D., Minister for Children and Youth Affairs.

This report looks at key aspects of young people’s lives at 13 years of age based on data collected from Growing Up in Ireland’s Cohort ’98 (the Child Cohort).  Using a wide range of information from young people, parents and school principals, this report provides a detailed picture of life in early adolescence in key areas such as health and physical development; socio-emotional well-being and relationships; school and learning. Importantly, the report also considers development since 9 years of age by comparing the same individuals over time on a number of key policy-relevant questions such as changes in obesity status and how primary-school experiences influence attitudes to secondary school.
