Introduction

Since December 1998 responsibility for the design, development, upgrading, implementation and maintenance of the HIPE system in hospitals was officially transferred from the Department of Health and Children to the ESRI.

W-HIPE

W-HIPE is a customised software package used to collect the data in each of the hospitals participating in the HIPE project.  This ensures that the data that is collected in each hospital is subject to the same rigorous checks.  

Batch Coder

A batch coding program has been developed to assist in the data entry of certain types of cases, namely Radiotherapy and Dialysis cases.

HCAT

Audit is an integral part of the HIPE process and the HIPE Coding Audit Tookit is integrated with the W-HIPE software to facilitate efficient and consistent auditing both nationally and locally.

SIS

The Shared Information System software is used to benchmark casemix data for all the hospitals that submit data to the national casemix funding model.
