ESRI Databank of Economic Time-Series

This databank is based on the data contained in the National Income and Expenditure 2006 volume. However, it also contains a very wide range of other time series that have been used in constructing the Medium Term Model (HERMES) and in a range of other related research. The data are all annual time series. While we have tried to have series from at least 1960 (or 1970 for some unpublished national accounts data) to the latest published date available, there are many exceptions. There are also a few series that go back to earlier dates, the earliest dating from 1927 (migration).

These data are currently available in a number of different formats:

  • The primary format is as a TROLL file (available on request) – NIE06.TRL.

  • It is also available in an ASCII format which can be read using a small programme written in PASCAL or FORTRAN or some other language. This file is called NIE06FRM.FRM.

  • It is also available in a single excel spreadsheet. All the series are listed in alphabetical order in ESRIDatabank.xls.

  • A TSP ready version NIE06.TSP is included. However, the variable names frequently run to more than 8 characters in length (with each name segment of a maximum of 8 characters separated from subsequent segments by an underscore “_”). Unless the version of TSP in use can read such names the file will need further editing before use with TSP. Also certain variable names (e.g. “C”) are reserved variables in TSP and will need to be renamed before use.
