NEW PROJECTS

Future Targets for Greenhouse Gas Mitigation in Ireland and International Climate Policy Researchers
Richard S.J. Tol, John Fitz Gerald, Adele Bergin, Susan Scott.
This project will study three questions. First, the economic implications of Ireland's climate policy for 2020, focusing on the numerous targets for emissions and energy use and their interactions. Second, the effect of past and present climate and energy policy, particularly the effect of carbon taxes in the OECD on economic growth and CO2 emissions; the impact of the EU Emissions Trading System on investment behaviour; and the impact of the Power of One campaign on electricity use in Ireland. Third, the impact on the Irish economy and emissions of alternative ways to implement the EU commitments on climate policy, supporting Ireland's negotiators in Brussels. The project is financially supported under the STRIVE programme of the Environmental Protection Agency and will run from January 2008 to July 2009.
