NEW PROJECTS

Investing in Education: Combating Educational Disadvantage

Smyth,Emer, McCoy,Selina

In the Irish context, socio-economic inequalities have been found to persist in educational participation and achievement levels. This study provides an analytical overview of current provision for disadvantaged children and young people across the Irish educational system. It assesses trends in education expenditure, the policy measures targeted on disadvantaged groups, and the relative costs associated with early school leaving and educational underperformance. The study, commissioned by Barnardos, draws on a range of existing databases supplemented by qualitative interviews with education stakeholders.
