Dr Garret FitzGerald
The Staff and Council of the ESRI note with sadness the passing of Dr Garret FitzGerald. As an economist and statistician he was in a unique position to understand, and to bring to public attention, the economic consequences of political decisions. He was intensely interested in statistics and forecasts and participated in ESRI seminars and conferences on a regular basis. In recent years he also attended press briefings in his capacity as contributor to The Irish Times and often cited ESRI findings in his column. May he rest in peace.

The ESRI and permanent tsb have ceased the production of the House Price Index. The CSO index will be published monthly from 13 May 2011.
