The Economic and Social Research Institute and the Foundation for Fiscal Studies (FFS) will hold the annual half-day "Budget Perspectives" Conference on Thursday 13 October 2011. The 14th Conference will examine some of the key economic and public finance issues that need to be considered in framing policy for the forthcoming Budget and for the medium term. The attendance includes important decision-makers in both the private and public sectors, who contribute to a lively discussion of the papers. Conference: “The Irish Mortgage Market in Context”

The Central Bank is organising this one day mortgage conference on Thursday 13 October. The aim of the conference is to inform the debate being conducted at present concerning distress in the Irish mortgage market. Presentations will be made by John FitzGerald and David Duffy (ESRI). Conference on Economic Renewal
Venue: The ESRI, Whitaker Square, Sir John Rogerson's Quay, Dublin 2.
Date: Wednesday 09/11/2011. Time: 9 a.m. to 1 pm.
What can Ireland do to increase productivity and growth in these tough times? This will be the focus of the first in a special series of half-day conferences on economic renewal, hosted by the ESRI. Researchers will present the best available evidence, both international and domestic, to address the following key issues for productivity and growth in the Irish economy:
- How can we best increase activity in the labour market?
- What can we do to boost innovation in indigenous firms?
- How should we target public investment in infrastructure?
The Conference papers are part of the ESRI “Renewal Project” which is supported by the FBD Trust and the ESRI's Grant-in-Aid. Policymakers and other interested parties will be invited to discuss the evidence offered and to respond to the ideas and issues raised. Further details and booking information will be available nearer the time.
Growing Up in Ireland Annual Conference 2011

The Growing Up in Ireland Annual Research Conference will be held in Dublin on Thursday 1 December 2011 at the D4 Berkeley Hotel, Lansdowne Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4. The conference will be opened by Ms Frances Fitzgerald T.D., Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, who will launch some Key Findings from the recently completed 3-year cohort as well as some of the first longitudinal findings from the study. PROJECTS
"The Renewal Series"
A special series of papers on economic renewal is being prepared by ESRI researchers. These papers assess the implications of the latest international and domestic evidence for key challenges facing the Irish economy at a time of crisis. The four areas covered, each of which will be the focus of a half-day conference at the ESRI, are: increasing productivity and growth, maintaining quality public services, better regulation, and successful economic adjustment. The project is supported by FBD Trust and the ESRI's Grant-in-Aid.
