Carmel Hannan was a Research Assistant in the ESRI from 1999 until 2001. She was awarded a Research Fellowship by the ESRI from 2001 until 2004 to study at Oxford where she obtained her DPhil. She is now a lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of Limerick.
