Abstract: The overall aim of this study is to inform Irish public policy about the appropriate transfer of care from hospitals to other settings by: profiling the need for, utilisation of and supply of care outside hospitals; analysing how supply of care in non-hospital settings affects the utilisation of hospital care; and identifying those areas in Ireland with greater need for primary, community and long-term care services. The project is ongoing and is due to report in 2017. The research team is led from the ESRI and is funded by the Health Research Board.
The ESRI works towards a national vision of ‘Informed policy for a better Ireland’. This means producing high-quality analysis to provide robust evidence for policymaking, with the goals of research excellence and policy impact.
The ESRI produces research that contributes to understanding economic and social change in the new international context and that informs public policymaking and civil society in Ireland.
