Abstract: The purpose of this five-yearb Framework Contract is to provide theory-based empirical studies centred on the competitiveness of European industries to be used mainly for the preparation of the European Commission's annual European Competitiveness Report. The objective of the European Competitiveness Report is to provide high-level analytical input to the policy debate on competitiveness in order to underpin proposals and recommendations regarding the Europe 2020 strategy and future enterprise policy. The emphasis of the studies will be on structural and microeconomic factors affecting competitiveness. They will deal with topics such as the operation of product, labour and capital markets, physical and intangible investments, structural change, innovation and other topics related to the framework conditions that determine competitiveness, with a view to a dynamic and knowledge based economy. The ESRI research team is part of an European Research Consortium which includes 21 leading research institutes co-ordinated by the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO).
The ESRI works towards a national vision of ‘Informed policy for a better Ireland’. This means producing high-quality analysis to provide robust evidence for policymaking, with the goals of research excellence and policy impact.
The ESRI produces research that contributes to understanding economic and social change in the new international context and that informs public policymaking and civil society in Ireland.
