Abstract: This project, funded by the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU), will produce a quantitative analysis of participation in all forms of rugby on the island of Ireland. The work will use multiple datasets to analyse the key transition points in people?s lives at which they take up and drop out of rugby. The research will provide evidence to inform policies designed to increase participation, in the context of the wider public health effort to raise levels of physical activity among adults and children.
The ESRI works towards a national vision of ‘Informed policy for a better Ireland’. This means producing high-quality analysis to provide robust evidence for policymaking, with the goals of research excellence and policy impact.
The ESRI produces research that contributes to understanding economic and social change in the new international context and that informs public policymaking and civil society in Ireland.
