Abstract: The aim of this study, which is funded by Irish Water, is to produce updated population projections using the ESRI?s ICPOP county population projections model. This requires the updating of the model using Census 2011 data. Furthermore, the project also involves analysis regarding the key assumptions around mortality, fertility and migration. While the international migration flows are taken from the recent ESRI Medium-Term Review, internal migration is base on detailed new analysis. The county level projections are produced for the two economic main scenarios of the ESRI Medium-Term Review and also using alternative fertility assumptions.
The ESRI works towards a national vision of ‘Informed policy for a better Ireland’. This means producing high-quality analysis to provide robust evidence for policymaking, with the goals of research excellence and policy impact.
The ESRI produces research that contributes to understanding economic and social change in the new international context and that informs public policymaking and civil society in Ireland.
