Abstract: SME Financing in Economic Recovery: Access to finance for investment and working capital for SMEs is vital to sustaining and fostering economic recovery. This research programme, financed by the Department of Finance, evaluates the credit and funding requirements for SMEs in recovery and provides scenarios for potential credit growth across sectors. This will be complemented by international research reviewing the determinants of recoveries following credit booms. In addition, and with a view to developing a more diversified range of non-bank financing sources for SMES the research programme provides evidence on the use of non-bank debt and equity financing in Ireland. The research will feed into a review of policy which attempts to provide insight for policy makers in designing effective interventions in the Irish credit market.
The ESRI works towards a national vision of ‘Informed policy for a better Ireland’. This means producing high-quality analysis to provide robust evidence for policymaking, with the goals of research excellence and policy impact.
The ESRI produces research that contributes to understanding economic and social change in the new international context and that informs public policymaking and civil society in Ireland.
