Objective: The aim of WP2 is to prepare for the project and secure an agreement detailing the division of labour based on the initial research proposal.
Deliverables: A general work plan for the consortium participants (D1) by 31st January 2008.
Work Package 3: Review of Literature (including country notes)
Objective: The aim of WP3 is to provide a comprehensive review of existing research in the area and draw together information on the systems operating in the participating countries.
Deliverables:
1. Each national team will compile a research paper, which summarises available research in its country on a number of topics including:
2. Literature review on religious socialisation. (D3)

Work Package 4: Draft of conceptual framework
Objective: WP 4 is based on work undertaken in WP 3 and aims to provide a preliminary theoretical model and conceptual framework.
Deliverables: Draft document on the conceptual framework of the study (D4). End date of this work package is the 31st May 2008.
Work Package 5: Typology of school systems (including secondary data)
Objective: The principal objective of WP 5 is the development of a typology of European school systems. In particular, the work package will involve identification of ‘models’ of the treatment of religion in different European educational systems that will allow us to address the question of how the structure and nature of the education system impact on the inclusion of secular, majority and minority religious groups, and to locate our five-country primary research study within the broader pattern for all European countries.
Deliverables: A document outlining a typology of European school systems (D5). End date of this work package is 31st August 2008.
Work Package 6: Workshop 2
Objectives: The main objective will be to ensure that a standardised approach to primary research is being used across countries and any potential problem areas will be discussed.
Deliverables: Work plan and design for fieldwork (D6). End date of this work package is 31st August 2008.
Work Package 7: Study design and fieldwork
Objectives: The aim of this work package is to design and conduct primary research, that is, comparable qualitative case studies in five contrasting countries, Ireland, Scotland, Belgium (Flanders), Germany and Malta. The countries represent good case-studies for empirical inquiry since they have diverse school systems but all five have experienced the recent immigration of certain religious groups.
Deliverables: Qualitative data on case-studies of school settings in five countries (D8). The end date for this work package is 28th February 2009.
Work Package 8: Workshop 3
Objective: The main objective of the work shop will be to ensure that a standardised approach to coding and analysis of the qualitative data collected in the WP 7.
Deliverables: Work plan for coding and analysis phase (D9). The end date for this work package is 31st March 2009.
Work Package 9: Coding and analysis of qualitative data from case-studies
Objectives: The aim of this work package is to code and analyse the qualitative data gathered from different school settings in five countries.
Deliverables: Partners will have identified the key issues at work shop 3 (WP 8). The end date for this work package is 31st May 2009.
Work Package 10: Workshop 4
Objectives: Based on the results and outcome of earlier work packages, this work package aims to make initial preparations for a report on the nature of religious socialisation and the formation of religious identity among children in comparative perspective.
Deliverables: Work plan and allocated tasks for the consortium (D10). End date of this Work Package is the 30th June 2009.
Work Package 11: Draft of the report

Deliverables: First draft of the report (D11). The end date of this work package is 30th September 2009.
Work Package 12: Workshop 5
Objective: The main objective of WP 12 is to plan the revision of the draft prepared for the previous work package.
Deliverables: Plan for revision of the final report (D12). The end date is 31st October 2009.
Work Package 13: Revisions of the final report
Objectives: To produce a final report which contributes to scientific knowledge and to policy development at both European and national levels.
Deliverables: Results produced across all the work packages will be compiled into the final report (D13). The end month for this work package is 31st December 2009.
Work Package 14: Project dissemination
Objectives: To disseminate the findings of the project.
Deliverables: Dissemination is a constitutive element of all project activities. Results produced across all of the work packages will be compiled into a final report which will be disseminated to stakeholders in education.
