Digital Technology Skills Needs to Enable Innovation and Support Ireland’s Transition to a Low-Carbon Economy

This research will analyse the current and emerging digital technology skills needs within the private enterprise sector to enable green innovation and support Ireland’s transition to a low-carbon economy. This research is funded by Skillnet Ireland. The outputs of this research will inform Skillnet Ireland in the development of initiatives and programmes that will support Ireland's transition to a low-carbon economy including a Climate Action National Skills Development Programme.  

The proposed research will provide novel evidence on:  

  • The role of digital skills as a driver of green innovations and the transition to a low-carbon economy in Ireland and other advanced economies
  • Future digital technology skills needs within the private enterprise sector to enable green innovation and support Ireland’s transition to a low-carbon economy  
  • Trends and drivers that will impact on the supply of digital skills in the short and medium term in Ireland  
  • Current and anticipated digital skills and competency gaps that will arise 
  • Institutional set up, approaches and initiatives in other advanced economies with respect to the development of digital skills to enable green innovations and the transition to a low-carbon economy
