Poverty, social exclusion and access to services – analysis of the 2016 Survey on Income and Living Conditions
This is a continuation of the series of projects funded by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection using SILC data. For the current project we explore the role of access to services for poverty and social exclusion. Two types of services are considered: childcare and professional home care services. The research takes place in two steps: in the first step we investigate the relationship between access to services and poverty in Ireland; in the second step we study this issue in comparative perspective, considering several European countries – this will allow to learn how institutions in other countries manage caring responsibilities. The analysis will employ EU-SILC 2016 data which includes a special module on access to services. Professor Chris Whelan, UCD is working with the ESRI team on this project.
