The Productivity Challenge and Its Interaction with Climate, Digitalisation and Human Capital Research Programme

The ESRI and the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment had agreed a joint research programme on “The Productivity Challenge and Its interaction with Climate, Digitalisation and Human Capital”. This will run from 2021 to 2023 and examine issues related to productivity which will assist in developing a deeper understanding of the processes which drive, or inhibit, productivity growth in Ireland.  The output from the joint research programme will provide valuable research output that will inform both the Department and the National Competitiveness and Productivity Council in their analysis of productivity issues. A central aim will be to identify and recommend productivity-enhancing reforms. In so doing, the research will pay particular attention to the parallel issues of climate, sustainability, digitalisation and human capital.

Two projects under the remit of the programme are currently under way: “Digital Technologies and Firm Productivityand “Productivity, Digitalisation and Climate Adaption: Complements or Costs?
