Growing Up in Ireland Data Workshop

Venue: ESRI, Whitaker Square, Sir John Rogerson's Quay, Dublin 2

Growing Up in Ireland will host a Data Workshop to promote and support the use of both the Child Cohort and Infant Cohort datasets on Friday 5th April 2013 from 10am to 1pm at the offices of the Economic and Social Research Institute in Dublin.

Training will cover a range of topics and is designed to give a comprehensive overview of the conduct of the study, the data themselves and supporting documentation. Researchers who have previously attended a data workshop should note that this upcoming workshop will cover much of the same content.

Those interested in attending should contact guiworkshop@esri.ie and indicate which dataset, Child Cohort (9 Years) or Infant Cohort (9 Months) they are most interested in. Places are strictly limited and allocated on a ‘first-come first-served’ basis. There is no registration fee for the workshop.

Child Cohort Dataset
The Growing Up in Ireland Anonymised Microdata File (AMF) from Wave 1 of the Child Cohort (at 9 years) is available from the Irish Social Science Data Archive (ISSDA) http://www.ucd.ie/issda/data/growingupinireland

This initial dataset includes anonymised details on 8,500 nine-year-old children, born between 1st November 1997 and 31st October 1998, in addition to their parents, principals and teachers. Data collection for this group took place between September 2007 and May 2008.

Infant Cohort Dataset
The Growing Up in Ireland Anonymised Microdata File (AMF) from Wave 1 of the Infant Cohort (at 9 months) is also available from the Irish Social Science Data Archive (ISSDA) http://www.ucd.ie/issda/data/growingupinireland

This dataset includes anonymised details on 11,100 nine-month-old infants born between 1st December 2007 and the 30th June 2008, along with those of their parents/guardians. Data collection for this group took place between September 2008 and April 2009.

The Anonymised Microdata Files (AMF) for both the Child Cohort and Infant Cohort provide many of the key variables from the first waves of data collection and have been prepared in such a way as to protect the anonymity of all participants. Both datafiles are accompanied by a set of documents describing the data, their structure and content.

Accessing the Data
Potential users wishing to access the anonymised data should apply to the Irish Social Science Data Archive (ISSDA) athttp://www.ucd.ie/issda/data/growingupinireland
