Manuel Tong Koecklin
Economic Analysis | Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Manuel joined the ESRI team in October 2017 as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Internationalisation and Competitiveness. He is a trade economist, in process of finishing his PhD in Economics at University of Sussex. He was awarded the MSc degree in International Economics at the same university, and the bachelor degree in Economics at Universidad del Pacifico (Lima, Peru).
His research addresses the export decisions firms make in a particular market, using large micro-datasets at the firm-product level. More specifically, he is interested in illustrating, both theoretically and empirically, the experimentation process firms undertake in a destination of interest, by introducing products into that market sequentially, as well as investigating whether trade liberalisation between two countries plays a facilitating role in that process. His recent research involves an empirical analysis on how financial constraints affect firms’ decisions to engage into the export activity.
