Authors: Samantha Smith , Maev-Ann Wren , Steve Barron

Research Areas: Health and Quality of Life

The overall aim of this study is to inform Irish public policy about the appropriate transfer of care from hospitals to other settings by: profiling the need for, utilisation of and supply of care outside hospitals; analysing how supply of care in non-hospital settings affects the utilisation of hospital care; and identifying those areas in Ireland with greater need for primary, community and long-term care services. The project is ongoing and is due to report in 2017. The research team is led from the ESRI and is funded by the Health Research Board.
