Research Areas: Internationalisation and Competitiveness

The purpose of this study commissioned by the European Commission is to inform strategy and policy design on integration and competitiveness in the EU and its Member States. The analysis will first identify and quantify patterns and trends in intra-firm trade between Ireland and other EU and non-EU countries. Second, it will uncover factors underlying differences in firms’ engagement in intra-firm trade inside the EU and in global intra-firm trade. Finally, on the basis of this analysis, the study will explain and compare Ireland’s engagement in European and global value chains. The analysis will be based on highly detailed firm-level data for merchandise trade by product and country of origin/destination available over the period 2000-2014.
