This European Migration Network (EMN) study aims to share knowledge on assisted return across EU Member States and to assist with the development of related policy and programmes. The focus of the Irish report is on the assisted voluntary return of non-EU nationals although some comparative information will also be included on forced return and on an assisted return scheme offered to nationals of the 12 Member States that most recently joined the EU. The current report builds on work published in 2007 by the EMN on return migration in the widest sense, i.e. comprising forced, assisted voluntary and voluntary return. A similar report will be produced by 23 other participating EMN National Contact Points. A synthesis report will be compiled that will draw together the findings of individual studies and place them in a European context.
