ESRI Annual Geary Lecture: "Real Wage Stagnation and Rising Wage Inequality"

This year's ESRI Geary Lecture will be held on Wednesday 7th October at 4pm at the ESRI. It will be delivered by Professor Steve Machin of University College London.

Stephen Machin is Professor of Economics at University College London and Research Director of the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics. He is currently one of the Editors of the Economic Journal. Previously he has been visiting Professor at Harvard University (1993/4) and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2001/2). He is an independent member of the Low Pay Commission in the UK and a Fellow of the British Academy. He has been President of the European Association of Labor Economists (2009-11) and is a Fellow of the Society of Labor Economists.

The Geary lecture is organised each year by the ESRI and honours Dr R. C. Geary (1896 –1983), the first Director of the Institute. Dr Geary is regarded as the most eminent Irish statistician of the twentieth century. Lectures have been given by some of the world’s foremost scholars in the fields of economics, statistics and sociology, including a number of Nobel Prize winners.
