Growing Up in Ireland Data Workshop

Growing Up in Ireland will host a virtual Data Workshop to promote and support the use of Datasets from both the Child Cohort ’98 and Infant Cohort ’08 on Monday 14th February from 10 am to 12:00 noon via Zoom (UTC+0).

Places are limited and allocated on a ‘first-come first-served’ basis. There is no registration fee for the workshop.

The workshop will cover a broad range of topics and is relevant to users of both the ’98 and ‘08 cohort data. You will gain a comprehensive overview of the conduct of the study, the structure of the data, supporting documentation, as well as how to match the datasets across waves.

No prior familiarity with the Growing Up in Ireland data is assumed. The workshop takes a general approach to the datasets. The study design, dataset structures and analytic techniques needed to make use of the data overlap across both cohorts so the workshop will be informative for all GUI data users.

Researchers who have previously attended a data workshop on earlier waves of the data should note that this upcoming workshop will cover much of the same content.

Overview of Growing Up in Ireland Datasets

The Growing Up in Ireland Anonymised Microdata Files (AMF) are available on application to the Irish Social Science Data Archive (ISSDA).

Anonymised Microdata Files

The Anonymised Microdata Files (AMF) for Cohorts ’98 and ’08 provide many of the key variables from all waves of data collection and have been prepared in such a way as to protect the anonymity of all participants. All datasets are accompanied by a set of documents describing the data, their structure and content.

Accessing AMF Data

Potential users wishing to access the anonymised data should apply directly to the ISSDA

Infant Cohort ’08: https://www.ucd.ie/issda/data/guiinfant/

Researcher Microdata Files

The Researcher Microdata Files (RMF) for Cohorts ’98 and ‘08 contain item level information on the majority of topics including some variables that may have been removed or summarised in the AMF.

Accessing RMF Data

To ensure confidentiality for the participants Access to the RMF data is strictly limited to academic research.  Application for RMF data is made through the Central Statistics Office (CSO) website: Direct Link.
