Measuring and Tackling Poverty

On Monday 13 June, the ESRI will host the launch of a new ESRI study commissioned by the Department of Social Protection.

The study explores a range of strategies to tackle poverty. It finds that a combination of measures targeting both employment and social transfers is likely to be the most effective way to address poverty reduction targets.

The study will be launched by Minister O’Brien (Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development).

The agenda for this event will include a Ministerial welcome, two presentations by the ESRI covering the new study and a recent report on the measurement of deprivation and consistent poverty in Ireland, a response by the Department of Social Protection and discussants.
