ESRI Policy Seminar: "Electricity Market Designs with Renewable Energy"

Speaker: Steve Beuning, Director, Market Operations at Xcel Energy and President of the Utility Variable-Generation Integration Group).

This Seminar takes place on Monday 23 September, at 13:00.

Stephen Beuning will provide an overview of his utility experience with renewable integration in the United States. Comments will include comparisons of US regional energy market operations, utility efforts toward efficient renewable integration and conclude with thoughts as to the evolution of regional energy markets as renewable penetrations increase.

Xcel Energy is a vertically-integrated utility in the United States with operations in three different regional markets. Mr. Beuning works on regional energy market design and wholesale energy market regulatory policy issues. He is also responsible for procurement of transmission services and new resource interconnections for Xcel Energy.

Steve is active in industry efforts to improve grid operating practices and the integration of renewable resources in the US. He serves as Board President for UVIG - the Utility Variable-generation Integration Group. He has recent publications on renewable integration with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the IEEE and NERC.

He has a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Colorado State University.
