On 7th September, Alan Barrett, Director of the ESRI, and Kieran McQuinn, Head of the Economic Analysis division of the ESRI, presented to the Oireachtas Committee on Budgetary Oversight. The Committee was established in July 2016 to enhance the role of the Oireachtas in the budgetary formation process. The Committee may make recommendations to the Government suggesting changes to revenue raising, or expenditure, and is expected to report to Dáil Éireann on the outcome of its review of Budget 2017, at the end of September 2016.
Professor Barrett made an opening statement to the Committee, after which he and Mr. McQuinn responded to questions posed by the Committee members. The transcript of the session is available on the Oireachtas website.
