Dermot McAleese

Dermot McAleese was a Research Assistant at the ESRI from 1962 to 1964. He was awarded a Research Fellowship (1966-1969) to study at Johns Hopkins University. He returned to the ESRI as a Research Officer 1969 until 1972 and left to take up a position in the Department of Economics at Trinity College, Dublin. He held the Whately Chair of Political Economy at TCD from 1979 until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of the ESRI Council from 1983-1994 and Chairman from 1988-1991. His research interests include European integration, trade and foreign investment, Irish economic policy and business and economics. 

It was with great sadness that the staff and Council of the ESRI learned of his death on 26th June 2025.
