FÁS/ESRI Employment and Vacancies Survey:July 2005

Embargo: 00:01 a.m. Thursday 15 September 2005 Key findings of the report for the month of July 2005:

  • Overall employment in the private sector is expected to rise over the coming months;
  • The percentage of private sector firms reporting vacancies continued to increase with 19 per cent of firms across all sectors reporting vacancies;
  • The percentage of service sector firms with vacancies increased by 8 percentage points to 25 per cent, its highest level in over a year;
  • Employers in the industry sector believe that employment will remain more or less the same while employers in the retail sector believe it will fall over the coming months;
  • Construction sector and service sector firms remain optimistic about future employment levels in their firms;
  • In July the most frequently difficult-to-fill vacancies in each sector were:
    • Construction - Quantity surveyors
    • Industry - Sales representatives and Managers
    • Retail - Managers
    • Services - Receptionists, bar staff, waitresses.
