The Costs of Working in Ireland

Working Paper 436: 'The Costs of Working in Ireland'

Working Paper 436 on 'The Costs of Working in Ireland', whose lead author is Professor Richard Tol (University of Sussex), has been withdrawn from the ESRI Website.  The working paper was issued as a work-in-progress document on 22 May and should not be regarded as an ESRI report.*  The decision to withdraw the paper has been made as it has emerged that the underlying analysis requires major revision and that the paper's estimates overstate the numbers of people who would be better off on the dole than in work.  The Institute has taken the unprecedented step of withdrawing the paper because of its concern that the public could be misled by its content. The Institute understands that Professor Tol is planning to revise the working paper.  *ESRI working papers represent un-refereed work-in-progress by researchers who are solely responsible for the content and any views expressed therein. Any comments on these papers will be welcome and should be sent to the author(s) by email. Papers may be downloaded for personal use only.
