Dorothy Watson

Research Professor

Dorothy Watson is a Research Professor at the Economic and Social Research Institute. She is Co-Principal Investigator of Growing Up in Ireland, together with Emer Smyth. As well as working with the GUI team on all stages of research on children and young adults, she is involved with other ESRI colleagues in research projects in the areas of equality and social inclusion.  

Dorothy received a Bachelor's degree in Social Science from University College Cork; and her MSc and PhD (both in sociology) from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She was a Research Fellow of the ESRI from 1983 to 1986. Her areas of interest are Children and young adults, social inclusion, equality, quality of life, and survey methodology.
