Niall Farrell

Niall Farrell joined the ESRI as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in September 2012. Niall holds a B.Comm (Economics) and M.Econ.Sc. (Economic and Environmental Modelling) from NUI Galway. From 2009-2012 Niall carried out his PhD at the Socio-Economic Marine Research Unit at NUI Galway, studying the Economic Evaluation of Wave Energy Conversion Devices. During his PhD, Niall was a research associate of the Teagasc Rural Economy and Development Programme and a visiting student researcher at the University of California, Berkeley. Niall’s primary research interest is in the field of energy economics. His research forms part of the Economic Modelling and Cost Benefit Analysis group of the Sustainable Electrical Energy Systems Cluster, analysing consumer behaviour, electricity markets and regulatory mechanisms. Alongside this, Niall has research interests in real options analysis, spatial microsimulation, environmental economics, microeconometrics and geographical information systems.
