Digital Technologies and Firm Productivity

This project is part of a joint Research Programme between the ESRI and the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment on The Productivity Challenge and its Interaction with Climate, Digitalisation and Human Capital. This research will examine the impacts of the adoption and usage of digital technologies on the innovation and productivity performance of enterprises in Ireland.

This research will provide novel evidence on:

  • Factors influencing the adoption and usage of digital technologies across enterprises;
  • The impact of digital technologies on enterprise innovation and productivity;
  • The effects of complementary investments in knowledge-based-capital (R&D, intellectual property, human capital, organisational capital) that condition the effect of digital technologies on enterprise innovation and productivity;
  • The role of the quality of internet connectivity in conditioning the effects of digital technologies on enterprise innovation and productivity;
  • Knowledge spillovers on enterprise performance from earlier adopters of digital technologies.

This evidence will inform enterprise policies aiming at fostering productivity growth via the adoption and usage of digital technologies.
