Electronic Communications Research Programme

This programme aims to carry out research relevant to policy and regulation of the communications sector in Ireland. Research topics planned for the coming year fall within four areas: Quantifying the effects of broadband in schools and of programmes intended to improve access of schools to broadband services; Effects of wholesale broadband infrastructure on wider economic outcomes; Modelling the market for broadband services; and Effects of local regulations and acceptance by residents on investment in telecommunications infrastructure. Funding is being provided by the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources and the Commission for Communications Regulation, and the ESRI is contributing a range of technical, administrative and other resources.
